Brookhaven Homes For Sale & Local Information (continued)

town’s beautiful residences, its convenient location, and its abundant amenities.

Today’s Brookhaven Real Estate Market

Brookhaven just recently became the newest - and, with 49,000 residents, the largest - city in DeKalb County.  The Brookhaven area is served by two highways, I-85 and I-285, and by Peachtree Road, which connects directly  to downtown Atlanta.  Nearby cities include Chamblee and Dunwoody.

Brookhaven has a great school system.  This area  is home to Oglethorpe University, a liberal arts college that was named for James Edward Oglethorpe, the founder of the state of Georgia.  Marist High School, one of Atlanta’s most prestigious private schools, is within a short distance as well.

Brookhaven's History

Brookhaven’s history reaches back to the 1830s, but there were few settlers in the area.  Eventually the neighborhood had its own railroad stop, yet it remained a very small community until the early 1900s.  Once Atlanta residents started building summer homes, Brookhaven quickly became known for its well-appointed houses and gracious public spaces.  Today, these elegant mansions can be seen in the neighborhoods around the Capital City Club, where several houses are listed in the National Register of Historic Homes.  In fact, many of the buildings in this area showcase the architectural styles of the early days of Atlanta, with the vast majority featuring updated modern conveniences for today’s residents.
