Today’s Douglasville Real Estate Market

Residents of Douglas have a lot to enjoy, starting with what is available within the town itself.  Anyone interested in history will find much to explore in the downtown area, part of which is a certified Historic District and listed on the National Historic Register.  Douglasville is considered a living model of a Southern railroad town, thanks to a rail-inspired growth spurt in the middle of the 19th century.  This is where you can see buildings that range in style from Victorian through to mid-20th century styles.  There’s even a self-guided walking tour available on the town’s website.

Another perk of life in Douglasville is its proximity to Atlanta (about 20 miles to downtown Atlanta) and to recreation (Six Flags Over Georgia is only a 10-minute drive).  Locally, shopaholics will want to visit Arbor Place Mall.  Interstate 20 serves as the main artery for Atlanta-bound traffic.

Douglasville History

Like many other towns in the region, Douglasville started its existence with a totally different name.  In this case, the area around current-day Douglasville was known as Skint Chestnut, after a particular chestnut tree that Native Americans used as a landmark.  The town was established in 1875, after Georgia’s 1829 Gold Rush chased the Cherokee, Creek, and other tribes from the area.
