Marietta Real Estate and City Information (continued)

at Christmastime, the square comes alive with Santa Claus and quaint carriage rides.  Around the perimeter of the area you will find dozens of shops and eateries.  And you won’t want to miss the Strand Theater, a fully- restored venue that hosts movies and live shows.

Outside of the city you will find beautiful rolling scenery.  The hills come to a stunning climax at Kennesaw Mountain, rising 1,808 feet above the neighboring area.  Kennesaw Mountain is home to a national park, which commemorates both the natural beauty of the area and the battlefield where the Campaign for Atlanta reached its bloody apex.

Marietta is home to several large companies, including IBM, Newell Rubbermaid, and Coca-Cola Enterprises.  The area offers outstanding home values, great school systems and plenty of activities to keep its residents busy.

Marietta’s History

Marietta was established in the early 1830s, and it quickly grew to a sizeable community.  Oakton House, the oldest continually-occupied house in Marietta, was built in 1837. Although originally Marietta was scheduled to be the railroad hub of Georgia, it lost out on that moniker; Atlanta became the area’s transportation capital in its stead.

History is a recurring theme all through the Marietta area.  Marietta Square and Glover Park are the heart of the time-honored downtown.  Today, they are still a vital and popular spot, home to a weekly farmers market and other local gatherings.  Other Marietta attractions include museums, theater, and the Confederate Cemetery.  Families will enjoy the proximity of Six Flags White Water Park.

From the Big Chicken - a local landmark - to the Kennesaw Mountain Battleground, Marietta is a city where the past and present coexist.  It’s also a great place to find a home in the Metro Atlanta area.
