Acworth, GA is located approximately 35 miles north of Atlanta, in Cobb County. With a population of approximately 32,000, this community is neither too big nor too small. The downtown area of Acworth is split by Western & Atlantic Railroad tracks. How did Acworth get its name? In 1842, the area’s railroad stop was the first place rail workers could take on water for the trains. Struck by the natural beauty of the area, a railway engineer suggested it be named for his hometown of Acworth, Connecticut. The name stuck.
There’s history aplenty in the Acworth area. You can visit a restored Victorian Mansion or an actual fossil digging site; nearby you’ll find a railroad museum, a Western art museum, and Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park, the site of one of the key battles of the Civil War.
