Sandy Springs History
Sandy Springs was named for natural springs - located near Johnson’s Ferry and Mt Vernon - that are still around today. The area was once a retreat for Atlanta’s residents, but over the years the rural setting gradually became more and more urban. The vote to incorporate Sandy Springs passed in 2005, making it one of the newest cities in the Metro district. Today, this neighborhood is a thriving part of Atlanta, where residents enjoy outstanding schools, easy access to a network of highways, and an abundance of outdoor activities.
